African Night

After having visited another picturesque park with Johannes and Mansoureh, we headed to Renens to attend a "Soirée Africaine." Johannes has become close friends with Honoré, the host of the party, over the past few years, and he welcomed us with open arms and a shout of excitement. It was wonderful to meet people from different cultures...most of the Africans were from Cote d'Ivoire and Ghana, and there was a Swiss girl named Camille, a French guy named Edouard, and many others. There were close to 80 people there, including small children. This was a bit similar to the African Night hosted by students at Iowa State in that they offered lots of different food - many dishes including a fish base - as well as an entertainment portion with gospel singing, dancing, and a movie. Included in the album are some photos of the food as well as pictures of the celebration.

Gospel Singing

Overall, the event was very moving. Not only did we have the opportunity to meet people with such rich backgrounds and open hearts, but it was also a time to reflect spiritually and use outlets such as singing and dancing to communicate this spirituality. I cannot say that there are many occasions such as this to meet such beautiful people.
